Last blog

Last week was so tough for me because I need to hand in reserach paper (twice), and prepare presentation(of course had other assignments and Final exams of other classes). But half of them were over!!

This RW class was useful for me because I need to face the kind of leadership directly. I have to get leadeship as it is requested in team sports and action with others. Until now I have no idea of leadership. However, I learned about a lot of kinf of leadership: shaking hands, power posing, smile, negotiation, plesures vs gratifications, 4 leadership presented by Brent, Jose morinho and Walt Disney!!!

Moreover, in this term, I have been wandering about what I have to do and wanna do, and how my future plan will be. I would like to experience various things such as study in foreign countries, study economics, to win tennis national tournament of all university students, intern and whatever. I just now wonder about something a little bit. But I decide to plan this year. Thanks to this class, I feel that everyone has to decide our own future at each time, which is important ability in order to be good leader.

Anyway, thanks Ken for your amazing and wonderful lessons. These classes enable me to grow up a little. Also, I wanna say thank for everyone in this class. I felt activity and classes with you were enjoyable for me.

I try to just do it with some lessons which I was taught in RW class until I will be a real leader!!!
haha:)

(why I have posted the pictures of Kei Nishikori is to respect him)

Brent's lesson

Brent's lesson was about which kind of leadership you are. Leadership includes many varieties. So we need to realize which leadership I am and thinl about what is my merit and my weakness.

My score was .............

Amazingly, the scores of Integration, Baser, Development, Results were same: 8.

But I feel that I am Developer or Integration because I have a social flexible, tolerance, long term perspective and higher-goals. On the other hand, I lack some elements of Results. so I feel that I have to get time efficient, short term goals and on time.

Anyway, this time was a great opprtunity of identifying myself.

Thanks Brent for good lesson!!

The Marshmallow Challenge

We experienced the most exiting events of ELA,  The Marshmallow Challenge.

The task is simple: in eighteen minutes, teams must build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.

We were divided into 5 groups and try to do that.
At first, as expected, we discussed how we should do and how the marshmallow tower will be. The discussion is confusing so we spent ten minutes already. And then, we came up with the good idea and do action. I felt it was well done. However, when 2minutes left the tower was leaning to one side. As a result, when time was over, the tower just fell down.

 How disappointing!!(I felt)

After the battle, Rab taught the real meaning of the marshmallow challenge, how well the team work do. The key word was "Just Do It (like NIKE)." I was surprised that the result of kinder garden's children was better than the one of business school students. Repeating failures mean not bad but the process of success. That's why doing action is important whether the result is good or bad.

Thank Rab Paterson! Recently, I am worried about a few things. But I decide to do action firstly. The key word is just do it!!!!

Ch1, Vision and Quick Victories

Reading this Chapter 1, I felt what is important is to set not only long-goal but short-goal. Also, we should overcome these short-goals little by little, which causes achievement of long-goal. I was impressed and think of below sentences as key ones,

As a leader, you need to be willing to shiht both long-and short-term goals without clinging to the   past. Additionally, you must be able to commit to these new goals with as much passion and energy as you died to the original mark.   (Page16)

From my experience, setting of goals in each a month is the best way of durability of motivation. People often tend to become lazy despite of hopeful goal and motivation. it is difficult for normal people to keep motivative and go on continuos efforts. Therefore, by setting short-term goals, being motivative is important.

I actually have some goals about tennis, study and so on. I feel I should allocate my time on each goal effectivly. I think that is very important through whole life. We have to think about in concession which I should throw away, and otherwise what I have to do. Additionally, just do it.

What I learned from Preface

We started reading the RW textbook, LEADING AT THE EDGE.

At first, I am skeptical about the textbook as leader's guidebook because I have heard so many these kind of books about leadership in the world. However, these books tended to say something unrealistic and impossible so I dishonest them.

But "LEADING AT THE EDGE"  is based on the non-fiction event actually happend, Shacleton's miracle survival. Also, I was very impressed this Preface. It includes why auther wrote this book, what is the purpose and summary of each chapter. What a easy preface to understand!!

Therefore, I expect that this book will tell me what real leadership is and how we should feedback on practical events. That is why I decide to read activly and critically.
